Pro runs a credit economy: vendors buy credits, credits activate listings, and a Hold-and-Commit step means a failed activation never leaves a partial charge. The credits themselves are bought through a payment plugin you likely already run.

No. It has no licence key, no expiry, and nothing that switches off after a period. You can run a complete directory with submissions, claims, reviews, faceted search and maps on as many sites as you like without paying. Pro exists for the money layer, not to unlock the basics.
Annual licenses include a year of updates and support and renew at 30% off. Lifetime licenses are a one-time payment and never expire. On Personal and Developer the site allowance is identical either way. On Agency it is not - annual covers unlimited client sites, lifetime covers three - so pick annual if you build for many clients.
